Madison County Flood Prevention District Acts on Sales Tax for Levee Repair

The Madison County Flood Prevention District (FPD) commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution requesting a temporary quarter-cent sales tax for emergency levee repairs.  The Madison County Board will now consider an ordinance to levy the tax at its August 20th meeting.

The Madison County FPD also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the St. Clair County FPD, and the Madison County, St. Clair County, and Metro-East Sanitary Districts, providing for the Metro-East Sanitary District to obtain soil boring, testing and the investigation of its facilities. The Madison County Board will consider this agreement as part of its August 20th agenda.

In addition, the Madison County Board will consider an intergovernmental agreement with the Madison County FPD, providing up to $2 million in advance funding for district expenses, including soil testing and facility investigation, administrative and staff expenses, and financial and legal consulting services related to the operation of the District and repair of the levees.  The appropriation will fund Madison County FPD operations until sales tax or bond issuance revenues provide funds for operation.
